Elizabeth Bunich

Senior Client Funding Strategist

Elizabeth Bunich is a seasoned Client Funding Strategist with over two decades of experience in the grant funding space. Since beginning her career in 2003, she has raised more than $11 million across approximately 350 proposals. Joining E. B. Howard Consulting in 2017, Elizabeth brought with her a rich background in municipal grant proposal development, having secured significant funding for a variety of projects, including major infrastructure improvements, public facilities, homeland security, environmental initiatives, education, records management, community and economic development, and historic preservation.

An alumnus of The State University of New York at Buffalo State College, Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s Degree and prides herself on continuously expanding her knowledge and expertise. She thrives on the diversity of challenges presented by each new project, whether it’s leveraging Artificial Intelligence and IoT, developing innovative software, creating medical devices, or addressing complex community and societal issues. Elizabeth relishes working alongside the world’s problem solvers – engineers, data scientists, software developers, social scientists, medical professionals, educators, and more – who are pushing the boundaries of their fields.

Her journey in municipal projects has taken her to a myriad of intriguing sites, from parks and waterfronts to water treatment plants and historic buildings. One particularly memorable experience was attending a commissioning ceremony for a FEMA-funded firefighting vehicle, where she even got to ride in the new truck. Although she declined the offer to ride on the aerial ladder due to its intimidating height, she enjoyed documenting the event from the ground. Elizabeth’s work often involves capturing critical photos of project sites, sometimes braving adverse conditions for that perfect shot.

In addition to her field experiences, Elizabeth finds joy in diving into studies, clinical trials, and related literature, especially when working on SBIR proposals, which, while less physically interactive, offer intellectual stimulation.

Elizabeth’s key pieces of advice for successful grant applications include:

  1. “If it’s in the budget, it has to be in the narrative.”
  2. “Use your resources; sometimes helpful information can be found in the oddest of places.”
  3. “Letters of support are more important than you think.”
  4. “Start the DUNS, SAM, and all other required registration processes early, even if you’re not ready to apply.”
