The importance of revision

  • November 17, 2022

Call it editing, iterative redesign, or revision. Whatever you call it, the process is crucial to a functional end product. By reviewing your work with a critical eye and implementing changes as you go, you are ultimately creating a better product.

Acclaimed children’s literature author Roald Dahl goes so far as to say that the revision process supersedes writing in terms of importance.

By the time I am nearing the end of a story, the first part will have been reread and altered and corrected at least one hundred and fifty times. I am suspicious of both facility and speed. Good writing is essentially rewriting.

We find this sentiment to be especially appropriate for the startup community, which is constantly changing and evolving products and processes to make the end result better. Revision is also an important part of our proposal preparation standard operating procedure. Every proposal we draft or review undergoes a multi-round merit review, critical review, and copy edit. This methodology allows us to ensure that our clients are presenting a competitive proposal to the reviewers.

Our merit review takes into account the unique review criteria associated with the individual solicitation to ensure the information presented is relevant. We also perform multiple rounds of copy edits for consistency, clarity, spelling, and grammar. Finally, we format and fine-tune the proposal to enhance readability and visual appeal. A side-by-side comparison of the initial first draft and the final product shows two astoundingly different products.

We work with high-growth startups and organizations that support the startup and innovation ecosystem. We build highly specific non-dilutive funding menus, provide proposal preparation services, and measure outcomes of funding through evaluation. Schedule a consult call with us HERE.
