USDA SBIR Phase II is opening soon!

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR) / Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program is an excellent opportunity for small businesses to receive funding for their innovative ideas. The program is administered exclusively by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Here are some updates on the program:

  • The most recent deadline for the USDA SBIR program was September 19, 2023. This means the deadline for the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs Phase II will be here before we know it!
  • The USDA typically announces the Phase II RFA in early December, with a deadline in early March.
  • The USDA SBIR program has released its Request for Application (RFA) for FY 2024. The program areas include plant and animal production and protection, food science and nutrition, biofuels and biobased products, small and mid-size farms, conservation of natural resources, rural and community development, and aquaculture. The instructions and topics for these opportunities are available on USDA SBIR Funding Opportunities and Request for Applications.
  • The USDA SBIR program team provides a detailed overview of funding opportunities. Melinda Coffman is the program coordinator for the USDA SBIR program.

It is important to note that the SBIR program at the USDA is subject to change. Therefore, it is essential to stay up-to-date with the latest information. You can subscribe to email updates from the SBIR/STTR programs office or visit the SBIR.gov website for updated solicitations.
