Personal grants and “free money”-too good to be true?

Personal Grants

In looking back on some older posts we noticed a post from 2013 surrounding personal grants. To view that post in full, visit https://www.ebhoward.com/home-owner-grants/. When we first started out many clients had heard about the myth of “free money” and would ask how to obtain it. We had to gently explain that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. It is true that low-interest loans, construction support activities, and some grants do exist for low-income families purchasing homes or attending college. However, there are no open solicitation grants for individuals. As our businesses grew this question came up less and less, until COVID-19.

COVID-19

Today, many businesses and individuals are feeling the sting of the changes COVID-19 has made to life, work, and finances. In light of these difficulties, many are seeking ways to supplement their income to get through tough times. As a result, this question has re-emerged, but our answer, unfortunately, remains the same. Personal grants do not exist. The good news is, there are stipends available for certain professions or professional situations, stimulus stipends, and plenty of small business relief in the form of grants, forgivable loans, and competitions.

COVID-19 Funding

While not a personal grant per se, small business relief grants are plentiful throughout the country. Many have been federally funded through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) or the CARES Act. Others rely on state, local, or private funds to offer small businesses the assistance they need to keep their doors open. To help fellow small businesses succeed and thrive, E.B. Howard Consulting created Startup Fund Hub in March 2020, beginning with a free open-access COVID-19 funding database that is regularly updated by our team. To get an account, all you have to do is sign up with a valid email address. While it’s not “free money”, we are happy to be able to offer Startup Fund Hub’s COVID-19 database free of charge. Log on today and see what you may be eligible for!
