  • Regional & NYS Business Plan Competitions: Several regions across Upstate NY are hosting local business plan competitions: Mohawk Valley, Finger Lakes, Western NY, Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Southern Tier, and Central NY. Undergraduate and graduate students from these regions can apply to pitch ideas in various categories including Clean Tech. The winners will advance to the New York Business Competition Finals held at SUNY Poly on April 27. The grand prize is $20,000.
  • Spending Bill Passes; Funds for Clean Energy: Congress cleared a spending bill for the 2018 fiscal year that allocates $1.3 trillion for clean energy funds and R&D  programs. The Department of Energy, EERE, ARPA-E and the Office of Science will all receive budget increases.
  • 76West Clean Energy Competition: 76West focuses on growing entrepreneurs and attracting resources from around the world to build clean energy businesses and jobs in NY’s Southern Tier region. The competition offers $20 million in prize money and support services. The top prize is $1 million. NEXUS-NY winners include Micatu Inc, Biological Energy, and ChromoNanoTech. The deadline to apply is April 16.

  • Blockchain developer Protocol Labs has launched a multi-million dollar research grant program. The startup, which is behind projects such as Filecoin, IPFS, and Coinlist, on Tuesday, announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) program that will see an initial $5 million put towards research efforts.
