New Funding Opportunity: Department of Defense SBIR Topics Pre-Release

The Department of Defense has announced the pre-release of new Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) topics for the Army SBIR program. These topics present an exciting opportunity for small businesses to engage in innovative research and development projects with significant potential for commercialization.

Topics Pre-Release

Starting July 9, 2024, the following topics are open for pre-release:

  1. A244-054: Additive Manufacturing for High-Density Materials
  2. A244-055: Advanced Pyrometallurgical Feedstock Processing to Produce Germanium Concentrates
  3. A244-P056: Mobile Sustainment Tools Open Topic
  4. A244-P057: Reverse Engineering Equipment Open Topic
  5. A244-P058: Shop Tools and Enablers Open Topic
  6. A244-059: Explosion Proof Collaborative Robots
  7. A244-060: Affordable Alane Fuel
  8. A244-061: Sensor Readout Integrated Circuit (ROIC) Design Blocks or Advanced Semiconductor Nodes
  9. A244-P062: Uncooled Thermal Sensor Component Enhancement and Supply Chain Open Topic

Full solicitation documents, instructions, and topic descriptions are available on the Defense SBIR/STTR Innovation Portal (DSIP). Make sure to select the appropriate BAA cycle and Release number.

Important Dates

  • July 9, 2024: Topics pre-release
  • August 1, 2024: Topics open for proposal submissions in DSIP
  • August 21, 2024: Topic Q&A closes to new questions at 12:00 p.m. ET
  • September 4, 2024: Topics close, with full proposals due by 12:00 p.m. ET

Compliance and New Requirements

Under the SBIR and STTR Extension Act of 2022, there are important programmatic changes. All proposals must include a completed “Disclosures of Foreign Affiliations or Relationships to Foreign Countries” form in Volume 5, Supporting Documents. Proposals without this form will be deemed noncompliant and will not be evaluated.

Engaging with SBIR Topic Q&A

During the pre-release period, proposers can directly contact Topic Points of Contact (TPOCs) or submit questions via the Topic Q&A page on DSIP. After proposals begin being accepted on August 1, 2024, direct contact with topic authors is no longer allowed. All questions and answers will be posted electronically for general viewing. Topic Q&A will close to new questions on August 21, 2024, but will remain active for viewing until the BAA closes.
