What you need to know before applying

The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) is one of the 11 federal agencies participating in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This highly competitive #SBIR program provides #funding for the research and development of #innovative solutions to the nation’s transportation challenges.

DOT SBIR/STTR is looking for applicants with ideas that have the potential for commercialization through products and applications that can be sold to the private sector transportation industry, state departments of transportation, U.S. DOT, or other federal agencies.

DOT SBIR/STTR awardees have developed innovative technologies that benefit the department and the public while providing a basis for growth for small businesses. The DOT SBIR/STTR program has invested $50 million in qualified small businesses.

The solicitation opens on February 6, 2020.

This year’s Department of Transportation SBIR solicitation deadline is March 9, 2020, at 5:00 pm ET

Eligibility

DOT SBIR/STTR applicants must be a qualified small business concern owned and operated in the United States. You must have fewer than 500 employees and the Principal Investigator’s primary employment must be at the applicant organization.

Required Registration

All applicants must be registered on the SBA’s SBIR SBC website with an SBC Registration Control ID, obtain a NAICS code, and register with System for Award Management (SAM), Transportation Research Board’s Research in Progress (RiP) Database, U.S. #DOT Research Hub, and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO).
